FINDLAY, OH i– Jon Henry has had a nearly perfect season, but it was an
uncharacteristic miscue that allowed “The Million Dollar Man” Donnie Moran
to slip by to take the $4,000 O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of
Champions Late Model Series win at Millstream Speedway Sunday, June 26. Henry, who has five wins at Attica Raceway Park in 2011, got over the cushion in turn two, but did a masterful job of keeping his www.jonhenryracing.com late model out of the wall. But, when you have three-time All Star champion and four time STARS titlist Donnie Moran right on your rear bumper, there’s no room for error. “We’re happy to be here. This is a good win for us,” Moran said in victory lane. “My car was good just about anywhere I put it, but I found a groove I liked and just kept working it and working it and it finally paid off.” Moran and Henry would bring the field to the green flag, with Henry powering ahead to the early race lead. Moran, Eddie Carrier Jr., Steve Casebolt and Greg Johnson would give chase. Henry would build a sizable early lead with Moran comfortably in second while a tremendous battle ensued for third between Carrier, Johnson and Casebolt. The 40-lap feature’s only caution would fly for debris on lap 10, wiping out Henry’s big lead. When racing resumed, Henry again roared ahead, but Moran, the first four time winner of Eldora Speedway’s World 100, would stay within striking distance. Soon the Ada, Ohio youngster and the Dresden, Ohio veteran would begin a high speed game of cat-and-mouse, methodically slicing through the back of the field. Meanwhile, behind the leaders, Carrier – who scored an All Star series’ win earlier this year – and Johnson would continue to duel for the third spot while young Russ King and former Eldora Dream winner Matt Miller looked to crack the top five. At the halfway point, Moran had slowly reeled in Henry, patiently waiting for the right opportunity. On lap 27 Henry jumped the cushion off turn two and Moran drove under for the lead. Henry, meanwhile, nearly stalled his car as he scrambled to gather his momentum back up for a run at the new race leader. Over the final ten laps, Henry was able to close back in on Moran, but simply ran out of time to catch Moran who nabbed the win in his C&J Excavating, Custom Cutter, Eddie’s Sunoco sponsored #99. Henry would cross the stripe in second with Eddie Carrier Jr., of Salt Rock, W. Va third. Bedford, Indiana’s Greg Johnson finished fourth with Bristolville, Ohio’s Russ King rounding out the top five.
