Craig Vosbergen Wins

West Australian Late Model Championship in Collie, Australia

March 12, 2011

A great crowd at Collie Speedway on a cool night got to witness flawless display by TVR #8 driver Craig Vosbergen as he powered to his first Dirt Late Model Western Australian Championship.

The night started out shaky for the #8 Ductworks Australia, WCM, Valvoline Rocket although managing a 2nd place finish in our first heat it wasn’t without dramas as the aftermath of driving through a big hole was more damaging than first thought. The #8 came back into the pits with a stream of oil flowing from beneath the car were a oil line fitting got tore from the oil pan and on top of that the rear shock bracket had been torn from the birdcage on the diff. The TVR crew worked hard between heats with the aid of a track grade to get the #8 back onto the track for the 2nd heat.

The 2nd heat starting out of position 4 the #8 Rocket made its way to the front and drove on to win this heat.

The 3rd heat starting out of position 7 once again powered to the front of the pack to take the chequer.

The accumulated points from the 3 heats was enough to put the #8 Ductworks Australia, WCM, Valvoline Rocket on the pole for the 35 lap final.

Having not been at the Collie Speedway for several years and having heard plenty of comments on track conditions from other events held here, the tyre selection for the 35 Lap final was always going to be crucial especially when starting off pole, trying not to be to conservative but also making sure that we would have enough pace to keep the field at bay behind us. TVR Hoosier Tire Guru “Brent Vosbergen” made the right choice of Hoosiers and the tyres held up great for the whole 35 lap journey.

From the drop of the green flag the #8 Ductworks Australia, WCM, Valvoline Rocket got to the lead and never let it up till the chequer flag waved 35 laps later!! There was some moments mid race were the #8 put a sizeable gap on the cars behind only to have that eaten up as lap traffic started to come into play. Trying not be too cautious in traffic and also keep a good pace it always tough when you’re the sitting duck leading the pack.

A few late race cautions then bunched up the field and took the lap traffic out of the equation and allowed Craig to get back into his rhythm and drive through to take the West Australian #1 Flag albeit under immense pressure from the Halliday & Moyle behind.

This was Craig’s 2nd West Australian State Championship win, the one prior back in 2000/01 in his #8 Super Sedan, so this victory was well celebrated by all the TVR crew and sponsors.

This event also doubled up as one of the R2C Pro Dirt Series Rounds so this should extend our lead in the series once the leaderboard is updated.

The TVR #8 Dirt Late Model crew will now have a few weeks off and get ready for our next event scheduled for the Perth Motorplex on the 2nd April.

Thanks once again to our great TVR sponsorship Group who we have now rewarded their loyal support with this state championship win: Ductworks Australia, Worldwide Construction Machinery (WCM), Valvoline, Empire Graphics, R2C Performance Filters, RACIN Tyres & Accessories, C & R Motorsport Engine Dyno, Dale Concrete, PPG, WRISCO Aluminium, Hoosier Racing Tire, Genesis Shocks, Valken Racing Wheels, Hooker Harness, BCM Websites, Rocket Chassis, Kendrick Race Engines
